knitting: commentary24 november 2002: so much yarn, so little time current active works in progress: 7
current works in planning that need to be finished by christmas: 3
current active works in progress that have been put on hold: 5
i know i am forgetting projects in there somewhere, but those are the ones keeping me up at night. i have a three hour meeting on monday, so that should give me time to make some good progress on dad's scarf -- his birthday is the 29th, so the race is on. i am using a broken rib reversible stitch and the yarn is actually a deep forest green. both are hard to photograph at night but at least you can get an idea of what is looks like so far. i ripped back the regia sock i'd started, because i just couldn't bear the three little holes i'd made via the increases. i am much happier with them this time, so hopefully it is all forward from here. i am trying not to be too anal about my knitting, since i am still basically a beginner, but sometimes the perfectionist in me just won't let some things slip by. i decided to make each of jim's nieces and nephews a hat to send for christmas. they are getting hard to shop for so we bought each of them a toys.r.us gift card and i'll tuck each into the brim of a hat, along with the piece of jewelry we bought for each of them in guam. maybe get them a book each as well, since we are all about reading in our world. i've finished one of the sleeves and the neckline for sophie's dress, so that will be done in plenty of time. i tried it on her last night, and even though i made it in size 4, it is just barely going to fit -- she's one tall little drink of water. i did put it on over her pajamas, so i think there will be some wiggle room, but not too much. and finally, my sister is here for a thanksgiving visit and she brought along my belated birthday present: 12 balls of opal mexico sock yarn! with a pattern for a sweater as well as a pair of socks. so in the new year, i'll finally be knitting something for me! thanks, tove!! 14 november 2002: catching up for whatever reason, i just can't seem to get back in the proper swing of things. i am holding my head above water but things aren't coming easily. this is easily the worst post-vacation letdown i've ever had.
i am almost done with the back bodice of sophie's christmas dress. then it's just a matter of sleeves and finishing. i might have it ready before thanksgiving which would be fabulous -- no frantic knitting in december, at least not for the boo. i do want to try and make some of my christmas presents this year, and i just realized my dad's birthday is at the end of the month and i wanted to make him a cashmere scarf. the mama got scarves for her birthday so i thought turnabout is fair gifting. i also nabbed two skeins of a super chunky noro; i think i'm going to try and make a quick poncho out of it for sophie. back to: a.green.girl :: hands |
