knitting: commentary

19 sep 2003 seven

though finished at a staff meeting friday morning, layette number seven was in fact complete in time for the friday afternoon baby shower.

15 sep 2003 at long last

knitting output still very scarce over here. but, i did finally put the finishing touches on the mission falls experiment. i had tried wooden heart-shaped buttons. barrel-shaped buttons. brass buttons. big, white, survived from the 60's buttons. nothing worked. then i decided to try and fashion something out of the leftover yarn. this is the result:

and this is a very silly sophie, modelling her new vest. "i look so cute, mama!"

now i must find some spare moments between now and the end of the week to finish the seaming of layette no. 7 -- the shower is at 2:30 friday afternoon.

11 sep 2003 slipping

september does not appear to be a good month for knitting. work is incredibly busy of late. in my family-less past, i'd've been putting in 60+ hours a week at least. now, i work a very stressful 40. september also heralds the arrival of jim's mom's annual visit, so there is the attendant panic about cleaning and rearranging furniture to make room for her. clearly, something has to give, and it looks to be knitting.

in spite of the craziness, we took a day and drove to the ocean. it was cool and rainy and all around fabulous.

in the few minutes i find here and there, i've been working on the mousies. i've decided to ship a baker's dozen, so two more to be knit, then the lot to be seamed and stuffed and sent. with each mouse, my cables get better; this has been great practice.

03 sep 2003 small

sophie's small bag. it is hard to convey how small this is in a photo; it is maybe half as big as the one i made for me. about six inches tall, i expect. the bottom didn't want to felt at the same rate as the stripes, so i took matters into my own hands and vigorously scrubbed it until all was well. i think i may be addicted to hand felting...

the beginnings of layette number 8. it will be a back-fastening cross-over sweater with a heart motif. and there will be a hat and booties, of course.

my cotton-ease stash. i think i am looking at a panda, of maisy fame, sweater. and maybe a maisy sweater. i'm still dwelling.
