knitting: commentary29 apr 2004 swing set i went with the swing set over anouk, mostly because while i think the front of anouk is absolutely charming, i wasn't so happy with the side view, once i'd tracked one down. so swing set it is. but i'm using the unger plantation cotton -- there was no need to get out the swift and ball winder, so i could start right away. the front is done and i am zooming up the back. based on the amount of yarn i have used so far, i think i will have enough yarn left over to make a little hat as well, given enough time. 27 apr 2004 go, speed racer, go! even with the power out most of the evening, i managed to finish the third neck cozy. knitting smallish stitches in a grayish blue is not easy by candlelight, just in case you'd wondered. one night this week, i'll have to sit down with the needle and weave in the ends of all three at once. [as an aside: i absolutely love this yarn. love love love it. i am now dreaming of recreating one of my favorite cotton/linen sweaters in this silky wool. it would be soft and pretty and happy. very, very happy.] and on to the pinafore! right now it is between anouk from knitty, and swingset from the minnies book. if the former, i think i'll go with stripes and use the unger plantation cotton [top - aqua, rust, yellow and gray]. if the latter, then the cherry tree hill cotton [bottom - yellow and fall foliage]. either way, it's stash so hurrah for me! now, to find the right needles and make the decision. can't waste any time if i want this on a plane next week. 25 apr 2004 twice! nay, thrice! it was so nice, i made it twice. and yea, verily, cast on thrice! the first two are koigu, the current version is lavold's silky wool. i'm thinking one aunt, one family friend and one mom. that makes three warm and happy necks! racing against the calendar seems to have kindled the knitting flame again. i am now shooting to have all three scarves and a little dress/pinafore done before the second of may. can i do it? only the shadow knows... 23 apr 2004 koigu will keep her warm and once again, it is all done but the sewing. lately i seem to avoid the sewing for as long as possible, especially when i haven't quite figured out how to weave in the ends so as to be completely unnoticable. my mom doesn't leave for europe until the first week of may, so there's a chance i will knit at least one more; she'll be visiting more than one chilly neck. 19 apr 2004 orange now comes the annoying part -- the sewing. i've finished the i-cords and measured where they should land on the back, so now it's time to stitch them down. and then stitch up the picot hem. i plan on avoiding it for a little longer, as it is still too cool for sophie to wear it. 18 apr 2004 five i was so very optimistic about what i would be finishing when. easter happened, so not much knitting last weekend. work happened, and is happening with a vengeance, so not much knitting during the week. and this weekend, there was a book sale, and a birthday party, and seemingly never-ending loads of laundry. but, some things managed to slip in. though i forgot to take a picture of the finished product, i have enough leftover yarn to show you the colours of the fuzzy feet i made for a friend. he's on his own for the felting part of the project, so everyone think happy shrinky thoughts. sophie's orange is six i-cords from completion. i'm whipping up a little neck scarf for my aunt in germany, who is always chilled. my mom is heading over for a visit next month, so hopefully this beautiful koigu creation will go along. critter blanket? still not done, but i am still working on it. and i charted out the rest of the colour blocks for georgia's blanket, so i'll be working on it for the rest of the month. may is almost here! 10 apr 2004 a good saturday just in time for easter and happy feet, i finished my socks! and even though these took me seemingly forever, i think i will be casting on for another pair any minute now. i am wanting to try out the afterthought heel which i am sure will suit me and my patience level better than all the short-rowing i suffered through for these babies. sophie's orange is coming right along -- i've done all the decreasing and am now at the k2p1 ribbing. i really must decide on the top of it before i get too much farther -- sleeves or straps? straight across or shaped? and i've started crocheting a critter blanket. i had forgotten a number of things about crochet: it eats yarn at an alarming rate, it hurts my wrist if i do it for too long, and it is fast! much faster than knitting. i might even finish this over the weekend. 04 apr 2004 lost i seem to have lost my knitting mojo. though i am knitting daily, it is seeming rather mundane and i'm not particularly excited about any of the projects. but, knit on i must. i'm blaming the time change, which always puts me out of sorts. i finished another strip of g's blanket, so i am 4/7 of the way through. and rather than keep working on the lacy sweater, whcih sophie insists she will not wear, i started a new orange and orange only project. so far it has a picot edge at the bottom, to weight it down a little, and i'm planning on reducing the width to 3/5's of what it is now so it will be swingy and fun. or so i hope. and a little stash diving resulted in this: lion jiffy for critter blankets! i can't decide if i should knit or crochet or both. crocheting is faster, and faster means more blankies for the fuzzbutts... back to: a.green.girl :: hands |
