29 july 2004 race
i really need to set more realistic goals and expectations. better yet, start things earlier.
i am halfway through with anouk, and i have no fears that it won't be complete by next week. i've already started the back, and have sussed out how i will make the sun, so it is all good.
the blanket, however, is giving me pause. and fits. and panic attacks. the thought of hand stitching the backing with the numb carpal tunnel hands is not something that makes me happy. instead i will concentrate on the recipient, who will be very happy when she gets it. so, it's all good too.
24 july 2004 hot
it is too hot to knit. too hot to write about knitting. too hot to do anything except sit in front of the fan and whine about how hot it is. we pacific northwesterners are not built for 100 degrees.
but, i am knitting anyhow. just a little, but since i still cannot find the back of the little cardi, i figured i'd best start something else for e in a hurry since it will have to be done by the beginning of august. so, i am proud to announce the birth of anouk. she'll not have flowered pockets; instead i am thinking little suns. to commemorate the heat, you know.
18 july 2004 slow
well, this is going to slow me down a little. double fisted carpal tunnel, most likely caused by working all day long on a computer, knitting, and surprising to me, sleeping with my little hands all curled up. so, it's splint city around here for a while.
but, i can't deal with the thought of not knitting, so a little knitting is happening. i wanted to finish e's sweater but i still haven't found the back. i may well just start something else. in the meantime, this will be a little halter for sophie. i have one skein of this so we'll see how big it ends up.
and i started a scarf on size 15's, thinking it would be less stressful for the wrists. it is very snaky and cabley and i love it. it was designed by jillian, who no longer has a weblog, or i'd link her.
13 july 2004 lost, again
so, i found the yarn i needed to finish working on emily's baby sweater. and now i have lost the finished back and the pattern. i have a feeling this project is doomed...
on the not-doomed project front, here is the red fluffy bag, drying. i felted last night but after looking at it tonight, i decided it needed one more run through the washer. and now it is just about perfect.
10 july 2004 fly
in the middle of all the chaos, i found the little leftover ball of orange yarn from sophie's halter. presto chango! a butterfly.
06 july 2004 red, white, and mostly blue
all other knitting was put aside late last week, so i could whip out the patriotic capelet! of course, sophie was much more interested in showing off her boo-boo than her capelet, but she wore it, so that was a success.
here is a better picture. i used exactly three skeins of berroco softwist, a wool/viscose blend. from the top down, starting with 100 stitches, and working raglan increases through the first four stripes. a little ribbing at the bottom, a little ribbing at the neck and there you have it -- the yankee doodle dandette. a very quick knit, starting friday night and finishing sunday morning. and once again i was reminded that i am an extremely tight knitter; i used 10's on this, the recommended needle was 8, and i was still under gauge.
the other major task accomplished was pinning the backing to g's blanket. now it is stable enough for me to stitch all the ends through and tie them off. good thing i finally got around to it as the blanket is to be delivered in less than a month.
