26 september 2004 long time no knit
this is the third charming version of the meathead. i am very pleased with it and it has already made the journey down to larissa in portland.
and though they were not quite done here, i have finished the two fronts of the blue cardigan. j's mom arrived on saturday so i will make sure it is going to fit and then frantically knit on the sleeves and collar so she can take it home with her.
this? this is the source of much trouble in my world. after three mri's in the last few weeks it has been determined that i do not have multiple sclerosis. that's good. very good. but i do have something very wrong with my neck that causes much numbness of the hands and arms, above and beyond the carpal tunnel stuff. i can still knit, but not as fast and not as often. so, a few more appointments to discuss options like surgery and injections and just toughing it out. i am hoping for a miraculous healing. maybe a little trip to lourdes.
15 september 2004 third time's a charm
so, there was a second attempt at a meathead:
which lasted about thirteen minutes and then became this:
because once it was on sophie's head, i was so very unhappy with how it looked when i was making an attempt to knit loosely -- all strung out and misshapen and loosey-goosey. so i shall reknit it in my own tight little style, and ship it off, knowing it has been officially stamped by the hand of k.
12 september 2004 finally
this is proof that even if you are a little spaced out whilst making a cake, and substitute water for oil in the batter, it can be salvaged with a little custard filling and chocolate glaze. mmm...
and this is yet another work project. one of the people i work with brought a bunch of yarn to the office. most is acrylic and as such will be used for afghans or the like, but six skeins were a wool acrylic blend so i decided to fashion a new sweater for sophie. i am using klaralund, of knitalong fame, as the inspiration.
at long [!] last, we have a complete back for the blue sweater. so now we move onto the long fronts. i'm thinking about knitting both at once, to give myself the illusion of finishing more quickly. and to make sure they are the same length. that never hurts.
06 september 2004 a long road
isn't this the strangest flower ever? i think it is some variant of a passionfruit vine, and it is growing like crazy over at my mom's. and it smells good too -- all tropical and fruity and fresh.
and it also gives a bit of a close-up of the sweater's stitch pattern. here is the back, so far. intellectually, i already realized it but now the practicality is hitting me over the head: knitting a size 3x sweater takes a whole lot longer than one sized for a 4 year old. even more than an adult xl. my hands are tired.
