green.girl knitting: commentary

02 november 2004 vote

read/watch/hear/. study. learn. decide. vote. it's the american way.

and after taking my own advice, i pulled the lever.

so, now, we sit and wait and what is the best way to sit and wait without just sitting and waiting? why sit and knit and wait! well, after i help the small child rediscover the floor in her room. "but mo-o-o-om, i like a junkyard in my room!"

27 october 2004 small

i'm back from the chicago business trip, and whilst there, sitting in meeting after meeting, i managed to squeeze in some small knitting.

first up is a thin mohair scarf and matching kerchief, in a beautiful green and brown. i'm not much for mohair usually, but i fell in love with this single skein at my lys, and as it was 30% off, it came home with me. the set is very simple and i am pleased with the kerchief; most winter headwear flattens the unruly curls, so i think this might both keep me warm and well-coifed.

and second, sophie's orange poncho, just in time for halloween. i expect it will get a lot of use as orange is number one in her world right now. i'm not happy with the bottom edging -- it is too tight and i'm not all together sure about the 3x1 ribbing -- so i think there will be just a little ripping, and reknitting before it is ready to go.

now i just need to finish off the blue cardigan and get it in the mail so i can concentrate on christmas knitting.

17 october 2004 out of office

i was hoping to get an update compete before heading out of town for a week or so, but, as usual, too much to do, too little time. see you when i return...

14 october 2004 signs of autumn

is there anything cuter than a row of tights drying on the line?

one of these days, when my hands are no longer numb, and i have an abundance of patience, i may well have to knit sophie a pair of custom tights.

i've given up on finishing the sweater in time for it to fly to new jersey on saturday, but it won't be far behind its owner. i've done all the seaming to date, finished one sleeve and am about halfway through the second. after that it's just a collar and button-band so it may be home by halloween. i need to start thinking about buttons, though; i don't have any that will match here in the stash.

speaking of buttons, my mom brought me six great buttons and a skein of yummy yarn from her recent visit to the u.k. she also brought sophie the most adorable stuffed sheep [which i am hoping to snag when she is not looking] and a plan for all of us to move to the highlands of scotland, to live in the green green hills with all the different sorts of sheep cavorting about. just have to find the money first!

04 october 2004 score

while at salmon days this sunday, we popped into the senior center's white elephant sale. j bought me a big bag of vintage knitting books and magazines, and then as i was poking through a bunch of pamphlets, i struck gold! two miss bea books for 10 cents each! and a #15 circular for 50 cents. i was so excited i let them keep the change from my dollar bill.

i've started the first sleeve on j's mom's cardigan. i went down a needle size to get the right number of stitches picked up without causing ripples in the armhole, and so far it seems like a great decision. it really doesn't look like much in the photos, but it is turning out to be quite a nice sweater; great drape, great shaping, and most importantly, she likes it!
