green.girl knitting: commentary

29 june 2005 bye-bye, cardigan

my goddaughter's birthday is next month, so i decided i had better sew up her present. it came out very cute, if i do say so myself, and i do. sophie was not particularly keen on modelling, especially as it is a little small; julia is 2 to sophie's 5. looks like it will be large enough to last her through the year, at least.

time to send it off to germany!

25 june 2005 the state of the skein

it's been a long time. been a long time, been a long lonely lonely lonely lonely lonely time. not for me, but for my yarn. very little actual knitting going on, but a lot of mental planning. i removed the twisty scarf from my wip list, and gave the yarn to my mother. it deserves a good home and to be made into something. the maisy blanket is still halfway done; i really need to work on that this week. and the sock is still missing a mate.

onward and upward! this is the beginning of a little summer top i am making for sophie. i have one skein of lorna's laces sportweight so we'll see how far i can get. good thing the small child is skinny! and that her height is in her legs, not her torso.

this is my new office knitting project. a coworker gave me 2 skeins of lion brand homespun, and it is slowly making its way into a shawl. at the rate i am going it should be done just in time for fall when i might need it; my office tends toward the cooler side.

future projects! rowan summer tweed, destined to become pebbles from rowan 35 [i think it's 35, but i might be wrong [i checked, i'm wrong. it's 33]].

a present from my mother: elanns' peruvian wool/cashmere. knit doubled, this is going to be an elsebeth lavold vest from a fairly recent issue of knitters. if i can find the bloody magazine; i know it is somewhere here in the house but it refuses to show its face.

another present from the mama [the mama is so good]: jaeger's now discontinued luxury tweed in red robin to make the zarah cardigan from one of elsebeth lavold's books. my mom bought one skein of this for me when she was in the u.k. last year and we both loved it so much she sought out enough for a sweater.

some lace weight alpaca-y stuff from knitpicks to make one or two little shawls for christmas presents this year. i really must not procrastinate on these.

more laceweight from knitpicks to make the paisley shawl from a recent interweave knits. it will be another christmas present for j's mom.

a single skein of elsebeth lavold's silky wool that has finally decided it would like to be the branching out scarf from knitty. this might end up in my wardrobe, or mayhaps in someone else's christmas stocking.

and finally, my splurge for the year -- a klee scarf kit in gorgeous, colorful cashmere. this is for me, me, me!

07 june 2005 halfway there

one sock, with a finished toe. when my sister was here, she decided she might like knit socks after all, so i am going to send it to her, to make sure it is the right size, and will cast on for number 2 once i have confirmation. and to make sure she sends it back for template reasons, i think i'll include a self-addressed stamped envelope.

i am one square short of having the third stripe done on the maisy blanket. i laid it out to make sure it was properly maisy-ish and the small child proclaimed it a success. and wants to sleep with it tonight. i'd best get a move on...
