green.girl knitting: commentary

31 july 2005 finished. and again.

in spite of the heat and the ungodly amount of work and the car dying and blahblahblah, i managed to get some knitting done! i finished the office shawl last night while watching balto, with sophie. she declares it cuddly so it should work nicely as a shoulder wrap when the meeting rooms are over air-conditioned.

and i wove in all the ends, and made the lacing panels for the back of the child's play halter. while sophie found it furry, after thinking about it and deciding furry is good because it is cat-like, she decided she will wear it. someday. capricious little wench.

24 july 2005 languid

it's hot. and the fan blocks the tv. and i watch tv when i am knitting. so there has been less knitting. and i am not particularly worried about it!

i am one strip short of a maisy blanket, but this weekend i did stitch together the five strips i have. it has passed the sophie test so i just need to get to that last strip and then get some backing fabric to finish it off.

i've also just about finished the child's play halter. i have 2 yards left and i think i will use it to put some loops on the back so it can be laced closed. then sophie should get more than a year's wear out of it; it will be expandable!

and i've finally begun the christmas knitting. harry potter, ahoy!

09 july 2005 plans

this is what four stripes of the maisy blanket look like, accordian folded and end to end. i'm almost halfway through the fourth stripe and refuse to give any more deadlines; it will be done when it is done. soon, hopefully.

i'm at a turning point with the child's play halter. i was knitting merrily along, and when i got to this point i asked sophie to stand still for a fitting.

as i've been knitting, i was envisioning something like the first of the images below -- like a bandanna, tied around the chest, with the point facing down. turns out, if she wears it that way and i keep knitting to the point, the point will hit her about mid-thigh; her waist is represented by the black line/arrow thingie. and i say again, if she wears it. because she thinks it should be worn with the band at the bottom.

so i am thinking about reworking it to look more like the second sketch. it will mean ripping back some rows, but i expect it will be worth it in the long run. i just need to be in the right mood to do so.

04 july 2005 happy birthday to us[a]

i celebrated independence by coughing through a nasty bronchial thing, eating a lovely picnic, and knitting on the maisy blanket. red, white and blue, baby!
