green.girl knitting: commentary

16 october 2005 freedom

i've made a decision.

there will be no knitting for the nieces and nephews this christmas, after all. it was causing me entirely too much stress for relatively little pay-off, so i freed up the schedule and i feel much better about life, how i'm knitting it, and christmas. they will still get lovely christmas presents from us, they always do, but the handknits will have to wait until next year. maybe.

all the pieces of the baby blue cardi are knit. i just need a button band/hood edging, and to sew on the sleeves. it is very cute, and i think the new grandmother will be very happy with it. especially after i add a little beanie and pair of booties.

the harry potter scarf, even though it may not be gifted this year, is rolling right along. i'm at 48" so a few more color bands and it'll be time to bind off and add a fringe.

the purple poncho will be made bigger, for sophie. she has a hat i made out of some of these purples, so it will end up being quite a nice set once it is all done. and it will use just about all the purple oddballs in my stash. yeehaw!

finally, in non-knitting craty news, this is the apron i embroidered the other night, so sophie would have something cute to take for sharing. this week they are learning the letter 'A' so we decided an apron would fit the bill. and it obviously fit the bill better than it fit sophie, but i think it is incredibly cute. and such a great way to save some of her kitty drawings. i foresee a lot of embroidered items in our world.

work continues to consume most of my time, and will the rest of the year. i am actually scheduling knitting time these days, to make sure i get some. i need the sanity break.

03 october 2005 ramping up

wow, september certainly was not productive.

i'm just back from a week-long business trip, during which i was hoping to do a lot of knitting. not so much. but there was some knitting, which is always better then no knitting.

first, the blue baby cardigan is moving right along. i just need the right front, the hood and the sleeves. with a little luck, done by the end of the week.

next, the first harry potter scarf has finally passed the halfway mark. it really does go quickly if i actually sit down and stick with it, so i must try to do that more often.

this is the begining of a purple poncho for a toddler -- one of my nieces. i am trying to use up the strange assortment of oddballs i have laying about.

these are the purples and they should make at least two ponchos or wraps. that'll cover two more christmas presents!
