green.girl knitting: commentary

26 january 2006 bedded

the bed felted beautifully. it took forever to dry, but finally, the cat is giving it a test snooze. so far, so good, though she is more inclined to fight with it than sleep in it.

silly cat.

22 january 2006 nervous energy

there were two reasons i decided to knit the cat a bed. 1: i knew i wanted to knit during the nfc championship game and i knew i was bound to not pay as close attention to the knitting as i should. so i needed a new, mindless, won't matter if tension is a bit wonky project. i don't know about you, but that spells felting to me!

2: the cat keeps stealing this yarn so she can lick it, and bite it, and generally love it like a little bunny. lamb's pride worsted in sunglow.

the game? not as nerve-wracking as i thought it might be. and now, the seahawks are on their way to the superbowl. excellent maneuver...

today. happy birthday, sophie!

15 january 2006 one

okay, i couldn't bear not having a finished project for 2006, so i knit one up. i used the leftover from my fingerless gloves and my mom's hat, striped with the leftovers from my sister's esther williams. i present to you the e.n.t tube! it can cover my ers, or my nose, or my throat depending on my needs. it is very snuggly and works quite nicely as a headbandish thing as well.

started friday night while viewing sin city, finished during the seahawks winning their playoff game. go 'hawks!

13 january 2006 barely

i've barely managed any knitting at all so far this year. very irritating. i do so like to have a finished object first thing; it seems to set a nice tenor for the year.

in any event, there has been minor progress on the first sleeve of the body-hugger. i've finished two sequences of the 16 stripes and have decided i can live with it. it was touch and go for a few rows, but i think it will do.

and courtesy of a wretchedly long kick-off meeting, i've just about hit the halfway mark on the klee scarf. it is an object of much envy in the office at the moment; cashmere has that effect.

08 january 2006 a sweater for me

i have in the stash sixteen skeins of koigu kersti in various shades of blue-green. a little fiddling with photoshop gave me a stripe sequence.

and a little time with the swift got the yarn ready. the cat felt she needed to supervise. from inside the swift. silly cat.

and off we go! i'm knitting sally melville's body-hugging raglan and i'm trying not to think about making the stripes match up when the sleeves are attached to the body. i'll worry about it later, or not at all if i manage to get really zen about it. so far i am really liking this yarn -- it is sproingy! springy! bouncy! and knitting up into quite a nice fabric. there is much potential here for a yummy, wear it everyday sweater. the color is a little dark in this picture, but it has been raining , and raining hard, here for days. not only has there been no sunlight, there's barely been light at all.

this year i am determined to knit for me. i think one thing a quarter isn't too selfish, right?
