17 june 2006 last minute rush
having completed mrs. t's end of year present, i realized that mrs. christine, who has worked alongside mrs. t every morning, helping out with the kindergarten class, deserves a little something too. et voila! the start of the single cable scarf from one skein. i had a hank of colinette that will be just perfect.

a somewhat better picture of the red red wrap as modelled by sophie. it blocked out quite nicely and is so very soft, i am tempted to keep it for myself. but mrs. t has been a most wonderful kindergarten teacher, so it shall go to her as intended.
and the hot water bottle cosy is all finished! toto is the family nickname for my sister, so i went a little embroidery crazy to personalize it. it is packed up in a big, bright bag along with some other survival treats [bubble bath/bath salts, wool socks, hot chocolate mix] and will be off to my sister next week.

light on documentation, long on knitting.
even though the tiny little stitches and tiny little needles absolutely wrack my hands, i've made another inch of progress on the back of the baby sweater. i hope to really buckle down on this once all the short term gift emergencies are over, and have it done and sent out next month.
there is no rush on this, but i still knit a few rows on it here and there when it finds itself the closet yarn to my questing hands. i think i have a design sussed out but there's plenty of time for that to change.
mrs. t's super fantastic, more-than-a-scarf/less-than-a-shawl, very very red wrap is done! there are some noticable skein color changes and my hopes that it would bleed in a hot bath and thereby lessen the effect were dashed when the red held to the wool very very well. ah well, it isn't seen easily when draped over one, just when all stretched out in a line. and that's the price for hand-dyed yarn, i suppose. i had thought about working 2 skeins at a time, but didn't want the extra bulk at the edge, where i'd have to carry the yarns up. i think i'd make the same decision over again, even knowing what i now know.
my parents are getting ready to head to texas to help my sister move to michigan for ayear, where she will do her residency. she is going to freeze her booty off, having been in warm climes for so many years, so i am sending a care package. one hot water bottle with comfy cosy, coming right up!
and finally, in the last minute gift category, the office manager of my company is having a baby shower at the end of the month. we're not close, so i don't feel the need to go all out, but i think i'll knock out a few mason-dixon bibs [from the self same book]. i started this one in green, but i expect i'll break down and buy a ball or two of pink [it's a girl] and make a set.
