30 october 2006 shiny
i have new yarn. four skeins of noro aurora that have surfaced, just begging to be entrelaced. having never entrelaced before, i gave it the old swatcheroo. i think the needle size will do for me, but it needs to be more narrow, if i want any length at all out of the four skeins i have. i must continue to dwell on whether it will be entrelaced, as it still wants, or maybe something elsed that may stretch out more shawl like and less scarf like. i think the glitter calls for shawlness.
isn't the sparkly bit pretty?
25 october 2006 fast
buoyed by the speed with which i created my sister's fuzzy little scarf last weekend, i gathered another skein of the same yarn [in a different colour] and two skeins of a tan acrylic yarn someone left in my office. mix together with size 15 needles and a 90 minute company meeting and we have yet another scarf. i may keep it, i may gift it. haven't decided yet. but it was a great way to stay awake during the presentations.
with leftovers somewhere in the realm of 2 yards, here is the first warshcloth set: two cloths, and a soap bag. i am very fond of the picot bind-off i did on the bag; so cute! now, on to the tropical blue set...

this is my sister. my sister who stole the pixie hat to take with her back to the frigid climes of michigan. the sister wearing the fuzzy little green and pink scarf i knit for her while riding the ferry to and from bainbridge island and poulsbo.
while the bakery remains the main attraction in poulsbo, we also popped into a little knitting store. and while i was tempted by many a yarn, i managed to get out of there having purchased only these five adorable elephant buttons. i don't have a plan for them, but really, who need a plan for cute buttons? they can just exist for the sheer joy of it.
and this? this is early christmas. my sister bought two skeins for me, and one for sophie. socks that rock, baby. sock yarn for me in harlotty and rolling stone. heavyweight in fire on the mountain for sophie.
19 october 2006 pixie
the pixie hat is done. and though it makes me look a bit of an idiot, i still like it. and it is very warm on the ears. sophie likes it as well, as does a co-worker. i may have trouble hanging onto the silly thing.
17 october 2006 lemming
and like half the civilized knitting world, i am knitting warshcloths. i still can't decide if i hate them or love them, but they are rather fun to knit. and i think i can get two warshcloths and a little soap bag out of two skeins. that makes for a wicked $3.00 present, discounting the knitting time. throw in a bar of good soap, and i think we'll have some winners.
the next stage of the rainbow connection: sleeves. i've picked up and am starting with the knitting down. i need to figure out how long sophie's arms are so i can suss out a rate of decrease. i don't think my wildebeest of a daughter and wide sleeves are particularly compatible.
14 october 2006 wrapped
wow, that fun fur stuff knits up in a flash! i finished last night so i decided to wear it out and about as we went out and about our business this saturday: the library, my parents' to retrieve the small child from a sleepover, seattle center to watch open season in 3D imax, the grocery store, cost plus world market... it cetainly was well-exposed.
as is this knitting, wrapped around one of the monorail pylons.
12 october 2006 broken
having made it a year, i bought yarn. 2 whole skeins for me, me, me! i don't like dressing up for halloween, but i don't like to be a total spoil-sport either. a halloween scarf is the perfect solution, don't you think? this is lion brand fun fur -- a black eyelash strung together with a pompom yarn of rust, orange and white. i find it oddly charming.
i also bought 8 skeins of cotton at $1.49 a skein. what a bargain! i feel the need to join the madness...
01 october 2006 finally
aren't these fabulous? mary-jane clogs, a birthday present from the mama.
the first part of the fronts and backs of the rainbow connection are finally done, and i have a decent amount of yarn left over. i need to find the undyed skein of this same yarn, though, before i can move along to the next stage. time to start stash digging...
and speaking of stash, i have made it more than a year without buying yarn for anything other than immediate gift needs. amazing...
