23 january 2007 why there still is none
first, there was some more of this:
which led to a lot more of this:
which totally kept us trapped in the house, away from the deadly hill of ice. and in the middle of it, someone turned seven, and there were various and sundry parties and breakfasts and shopping trips associated there with, both before and after the major ice episodes.
but there was some small progress. i need two more sides of the brown trim, then another go round with all the colors again, in reverse order and in a smaller stripe. then another border and it shall be done. i am so not looking forward to weaving in the ends of loosely knit, bulky yarn. hate it. totally, absolutely hate it. so much so, in fact, that i may end up backing the blanket and using the ends to tie the backing to the blanket; my favorite weaving avoidance solution ever...
12 january 2007 beginning
still no finished object for the year. but i am doing at least 1/2 a 24 row repeat each time i pick up the cabled scarf. 12 rows here, 12 rows there, it'll add up eventually. unless it continues to bore me to tears, in which case the adding up may take quite a while.
this is my stash of berocco pronto. at some point in the past, i had a plan for all this involving striped jumpers and cardigans and something else, no doubt. now, i have an actual plan for at least part of it.
jim's brother john is expecting his first child very shortly. so here is the beginning of a log cabin baby blanket. it is already so soft and snuggly. and machine washable! i think i am going to like it. and will have enough left over to still make some other things, whether from the previous list of potential projects, or something completely new.
also? really really cold here. pretty, but cold.
06 january 2007 finishing
shortly after i finished rosedale last year, during the olympic challenge, i decided i probably wanted a zipper in it after all. i bought a zipper over the summer, returned it for another in the fall after finding it too short and the wrong color, and finally found the sweater, the zipper, the needle and thread and my motivation all in the same place just before the seahawks first round playoff game.
unfortunately, this is the result of that first attempt.
so, i started again, slowly and carefully, and finished the last stitch of the first round in the same minute the seahawks won the game. coincidence? i think not! i think i'll do the second line of stitching during next week's game; couldn't hurt.
05 january 2007 leftover
my poor sad unworn shawl. i finished it the day of the office christmas party, though there was in fact no party to be had. and no party has been rescheduled which has left me with a rather bad taste in my mouth for both my office party planners and the shawl. therefore, it has been gifted to jim's mother, who plans to give it to someone else in turn. or keep for herself, should she so choose.
i used the cobweb pattern from an early magknits issue. you can see the pattern and the glitter of the metallic thread in this picture. it was very sparkly. and now it is gone. however, should i really want another, i have plenty of yarn left.
01 january 2007 fa la la
i like to have a finished object for the year already done on the first. not this year. this year, though i refuse to call them resolutions, i have some hopes. i hope to finish everything that i've already started. i hope to knit new things directly from stash. i hope to knit something for me, something for jim and something for sophie, making my family the first priority. fingers crossed...
for christmas i received two lovely knitting related gifts. from my mother, six skeins of an ultra-soft yarn with which to knit the vogue cover scarf from the fall 2006 issue, the braided one.
and from my sister, the latest nicky epstein book -- knitting beyond the edge. there are some absolutely lovely button bands in here, things that are inspiring me.
