green.girl knitting: commentary

31 august 2007 to the top

second heel successfully turned! even though i had to tink back ten rows at one point because i had apparently forgetten to p2tog, twice. completely irritating, and made even more so because the bloody yarn is even more splitty when it's been knit and unknit and reknit again. i seriously hate splitty yarn. seriously.

this is how much yarn i have left for the legs. i think i will make them as long as they yarn will go, unless it seems like a ridiculous length, in which case i'll stop sooner and use the leftovers for something or other. maybe mini socks for christmas ornaments or something.

28 august 2007 new

i couldn't help myself. i started the halloween socks. just the toe. and a few rows of pattern. but now i am happy and can safely set it aside until the brown and green socks are done.

speaking of which, i have started the increases for the gusset. once i get the heel turned on this one, i will alternate between the two socks, 10 or 20 rows apiece, so i can use every little bit of the yarn.

22 august 2007 stand still

why i'm not knitting. i told jim, i know i am sick because i am not even thinking about knitting...

20 august 2007 second sock

having successfully turned the heel on the first sock, i am now starting the second. i am still irritated with the splittiness of the yarn but am equally determined to tough it out and have myself a new pair of socks.

i was knitting whilst watching television, and apparently this is the pose in which i am most likely to be seen during the most interesting bits. amazing i have yet to bite one in half; i haven't even left bite marks on any of the needles!

16 august 2007 boo

another product of the great sock binge of 2007: sock pixie in burned orange. i almost went with halloween night, as these are to be halloween socks, but thought it might be a little too widely striped. in any event, i will start them soon so they will be ready for the holiday. i have to be away on business october 31st, so i am gaining solace with the thought of wearing happy halloween socks. won't make up for missing trick or treat with sophie, though...

15 august 2007 slowly

finally, a company-wide meeting that lasted long enough for me to make a little progress on the work project. i think i knit more than four inches of the yellow, leaving about 3 or 4 more until i start the increases/decreases for the end. i really should have unrolled it for the progress picture, yes?

13 august 2007 done and done

the gifties for t are all done. and delivered! the pictures leave something to be desired but there was no light at home when i finished them and little light in the office today. such is. and they look a little wrinkled because they were all folded and put in a gift bag. not to worry, once she tried them on, all wrinkles disappeared.

the tube top.

the selection of ribbons to run through the eyelets at the top of the tube top [a little extra security never goes amiss in tube top world].

the shrug.

11 august 2007 endless

i fear i shall be sewing hems forever. and ever. and ever. and... you get the idea.

07 august 2007 maneuvers

i took a little break from the gift knitting to do some selfish knitting. i am so very pleased with the gusset on the sock -- it fits perfectly and looks a dream, no holes, no gaps, no nothing but happy little even stitches.

and it looks to fit perfectly as well. i'll leave this one off now and start the other, work it to this point and then finish them off together to make sure they are the same length and i use all the yarn.

all things are a go on the shrug front -- it fits her beautifully! so now it is yards and yards of attached i-cord. good thing there is something interesting on tv most nights as i'll need something interesting to get me through it.

05 august 2007 and again

the sleeves of the shrug need to be 2.5 inches longer. that girl is the lankiest person i know. so i am in the process of ripping back past the eyelet round and i'll get them finished off this weekend. maybe make a start on the i-cord as well. no pictures because it looks just like last weeks, only slightly less. i fear i'll also eventually be ripping out the bottom part of the shrug to make it a little more narrow, but she wants to see how it looks when the i-cord is stopping all the rolling so i'll go that route. really, she's worth the extra effort.

but i have done a few more rows on the sock. i don't think i care much for this yarn. it is awfully splitty and makes me crazy when knitting, but i like how the color is playing out and i like the pattern so the end result should be just fine.

01 august 2007 now we are five

i've been tracking my knitting for five years on this page. amazing. unlike many, i don't also talk very much about anything else in my life; there are reasons for that and it suits me, but it is very nice for me to be able to page back through the past 60 months and see how far my craft has progressed and all the beautiful things i have made with my own two hands. on to the next five!

i'm just finishing up the sleeves on the shrug, then it will be back to the office for another fitting. i expect i'll be changing a few things but there's really no way to know how much or where until she has it on.

i did elect to do the sleeves in the round, as i knit much more quickly that way. i picked up a few stitches in the underarm then decreased back down after a few rounds and it looks very nice -- no hole at all.

the sock yarn binge has finally spilled over into the sock making run. so far we have but a toe...
