24 november 2008 2.4.2
november has proved to be a very busy month -- very, very busy at work and pretty darned busy at home as well. there's been knitting but there has been more reading than usual -- i have just felt more like curling up with a book than with yarn most evenings. the list this month, so far, is as follows:
and i'm in the middle of two more, with hopes of even more before months end. it's sheer craziness i tell you!
i finished the kiri shawl for my sister. it's all blocked out [and the top edge reblocked since this picture was taken, to kill those weird ridges] and ends woven in and ready to be wrapped and sent to tennessee as soon as i figure out what to get for the brother-in-law. mayhaps i knit a manly scarf...
i also decided i was tired of my fingers being so cold, even though the weather has been very mild for the season, so i took the leftovers from the wooly mammoth and knit wristwarmers and made them extra long so even the tips of my fingers could be warm if i needed then toi be. they fold back nicely if i need to use my fingers and the folded over part gives my palms a nice cushion when i am using the keyboard.
did i ever tell of the tragedy of the favorite socks? the new favorite coppery colored, self-designed, fit both me and jim socks? the ones i took to disneyworld and they were felting rather a lot what with wearing them with my crocs and i was overjoyed at how they would be even warmer for the winter? the ones that housekeeping apparently ate? the whole episode still makes me weep. but, i must move on so i started a new pair of socks in the hopes they would become a new, new favorite. it is vesper yarn, something i had coveted for quite a while and i finally scored some in a colorway i liked. it is rather seahawkish, so the hawk socks they shall be. no patterning, just letting the striping stripe as it may.
i also started the shawl for the deserving coworker -- swallowtail, take 3. this one actually has a self-imposed deadline of december 1 so i must try to put the books aside in the evenings so i can finish. it will help that i'll have the four day thanksgiving weekend -- there should be at least a few spare hours here and there i can fill with a repeat or two or three.
finally, 2 skeins for $2 plus 2 hours watching christmas movies during the countdown to countdown to christmas gave me a bright and bobbly, bubblegum pink scarf. i originally thought i would gift this somewhere but i am strangely attached to it and i don't have an out and out pink scarf, so i might well keep it for the already too large scarf collection. scarves are good, especially as i am always wearing my hair up or in braids and that leaves my poor delicate neck exposed to the elements and the hvac at the office. must protect ones delicates!
