green.girl knitting: commentary

28 july 2009 one and done

so...

the tour is done and i am rather pleased that lance was on the podium and rather annoyed that contador showed himself to be a selfish prat. suppose i won't be a fan of his after all. but i am a fan, slightly, of the finished asparagus socks. mostly because they are finished and i shan't have to work on them any more, except for the weaving of four ends, which i will most likely delay entirely too long.

i like the color of the yarn, and i like the composition of the yarn, but i hate the yardage. these are barely more than anklets. which will keep the feet warm, nonetheless, so i shall stop whining about them now. it's so bloody hot here that whining seems to be the default reaction...

i did not finish the other pair of socks, nor the new scarf, choosing instead to start something new. sophie will be going with her grandparents next month to visit some relatives in the mountains of colorado. as i don't want sophie turning up empty handed, i am knitting a lightweight shawl, as i am sure it gets a bit chilly in the evenings up there.

i have no idea if i will have enough yardage as i have no idea what this yarn is made of, how many yards were in the admittedly giant skein, or more than an inkling of where i got it. i'm thinking ebay, 2003 or 2003, and i have a vague recollection of the words twinkle toes being involved. it's a glorious, riotously colored mystery! and shall hopefully be a lovely, somewhat rustic looking shawl, that will soon adorn the shoulders of my dad's cousin's wife.

so far, so good. there has been cycling accompanied by knitting every night. last night was the team time trial, so i worked on three projects, one for each t.

t1: the asparagus socks. i did three repeats of the four row pattern before i got annoyed with the manipulation required for the little cables. 12 rows is 12 rows of progress!

t2: the striped hawk sock. i am safely past the after-thought heel so i can go back and knit that in whenever i feel like it. i can't find another set of this size needles, and as i need to knit the other sock to this point before finishing both off [to make sure i have enough yarn and they are the same length] i am debating on strategy. maybe i finish the green socks, then use the slightly bigger needles for the proposed ribbing on the ankle and cuffs. then i could use the proper smaller needles to get sock two to this point, then i can worry again about how to deal with having but one set of each size. i really should just buy some more but i am trying to stop with the unnecessary purchases.

t3: a girl cannot live by socks alone. i need to stash bust a bit and the blue scarf i have right now is a little too stiff and a lot too short. so i am making a new one. easy peasy pattern across 37 stitches means this should be done before the end of summer. easily.

back to the tour...
