green.girl knitting: commentary

30 december 2009 apple [bags] for the teachers

successful gifting has been achieved! there will be some frantic crafting this week as i have plans for a few more gifts, but none of them knit, so i can stick a needle in the holiday knitting!

they came out so cute that i don't have any of the usual "i hope they like handcrafted gifts" angst. none at all.

they look lovely when hanging, don't they?

i was hoping to fit in a whole lot of knitting while i sat in the jury room monday and tuesday. sadly, they updated the banned items list in may, and now knitting needles are forbidden. i can take in a butter knife, but not a sock needle, even if plastic. tragic...

13 december 2009 some assembly required

all the bits and bobs are knit.

i so liked the embellishment on the green bag, i decided to embellish these as well. therefore, two flowers were knit, and two leaves. i think my fingers have had it for the day, though, so the sewing up shall commence tomorrow. and they shall then be wrapped and sent to school before friday! target date made!

10 december 2009 glut

i have more yarn than i can possibly use next year, or the year after that, and maybe even the year after that. i'm not going to do anything about it, just wanted to note it. i actually have a plan or two for some yarn that has been in storage for several years, so that is progress of a sort. maybe.

did that stop me from throwing two skeins of unspun icelandic rovingesque yarn into the cart when i was buying the elizabeth zimmerman green sweater pattern? no, no it did not. fa la la la la!

in other joyous season news, i repurposed the first market bag, which was destination unknown, to be a lovely carrier of a bounty of made in washington gifts. we were going to send giftbaskets by the company of the same name but decided we could get more bang for our buck by building them ourselves.

i didn't want to waste precious box space with a basket, so instead all the lovelies were jammed into the bag! i jazzed it up a little with the addition of a knit flower and i liked it so much i shall embellish the teachers' bags in a similar manner. it takes the bags from functional to funky!

functional to funky, indeed. i've obviously has too much eggnog...
