23 april 2010 false start
sophie has a friend i refer to as the pixie; she is tiny, in both stature and weight, probably weighing in at no more than 50 pounds. friday night, at the school for a function, i stood next to the pixie's parents, who are both tiny as well. and besides the fact tiny people make me nervous -- what if i break them accidentally? -- i mostly feel envious; imagine how much more quickly i could finish a sweater or pair of socks if i only had to knit size XS? heaven...
so, i have turned both heels and knit an inch of stockinette past the heels on both socks and have commenced the ribbing on sock number two. there are still miles to go before i sleep. damn my wonderful husband's size 10 feet! and my own size 11s. too bad i dislike anklets.
i have started a scarf with this yarn three times now. this is the latest attempt -- it would be a zigzagging openwork thing if i were to finish, which i am not, as i don't like it. deep sigh. i still think something a little lacy but not too lacy is the best bet, but i may have to go with something else if i don't hit on the right stitch pretty soon.
18 april 2010 lost
somewhere, in the craziness of my front room, i have lost my package of double-pointed needles. this is very irritating, but not quite irritating enough for me to tear the place apart in order to find them and then reassemble the room. it's that last part that stops me every time.
i am starting the gusset increases on jim's second sock. i finally did the smart thing and put the first sock on a piece of waste yarn so he could try it on, to make sure it was neither too big nor too small but instead just right. and it is. so i can push forward with number two, increasing away, turning the heel, and then shall move between the two, knitting the legs, until all the yarn is gone.
11 april 2010 two
two inches of sock. that's all i've got.
oh! and a skein of yarn in the colorway riptide for my percy jackson obsessed small child. we're thinking maybe a little camisole of sorts. there should be enough yarn for that, even if she is growing at an alarming rate.
things should be somewhat calmer in my professional world starting later this month, so hopefully i shall have more progress to report soon.
