green.girl knitting: commentary

11 april 2011 done! done! done!

it has been a very productive month. it always helps when there is a business trip as it allows plane knitting, albeit not as much as i would have liked as i was in the middle seat four times in a row, and evening hotel room knitting.

i did persuade the small child to put on the sweater so i would have proof it was made. and worn. she has worn it to school twice and on the weekend once and also in the mornings, when she is cold, she'll put it on over her pajamas. so, i deem it a minor success -- it is just what she wanted and she wears it. actually, that is a major success.

i finished my sister's shawl and blocked it within an inch of its life. this extra mattress comes in handy but i would love to have a big flat spot on the floor to really have at it -- i had to go up and over the edge of the mattress for one of the points.

it really is quite lovely and has a wonderful drape. and it stays on the shoulders like a good shawl should. it is now living happily in hawaii and has already been worn in the air-conditioned halls of the hospital in which my sister works. major success! again!

major failure in the photography category, major success in the knitting! one of my mama's best friends came to spend some time with her while she is recovering from her knee replacement surgery. i wanted to say thank you so knit up this little shoulder wrap in colours that just scream DIANNA! she is a free-spirit and has a heart as large as any i've met and i so wanted to get it to her as soon as possible that i handed it over before i thought to take a finished picture. i will see her at least one more time before she leaves so there is a chance still to remedy the situation.

finally, a very colorful sweaster for the daughter of my cousin. this is a wool/cotton/acrylic blend sock yarn and i am not altogether sure i like the way it is holding the pattern. i'll wash and block before i weave any ends so i can rip it if does not please me. i do like looking down and seeing little rainbows on the needles as i am knitting; somehow, it makes the stitches fly past more quickly.

so, i ordered new size 5 double points so i can finish the mitts. though it is no longer mitt weather so the rush is off. i'll get to them eventually, probably after the baby sweater is done, and then i'll forget where i put them when next autumn rolls along. i also have size 17s and the necessary yarn to make a new blanket for jim. he doesn't ask for knits very often, so i like to indulge his requests.
