25 june 2011 color two
the small child and i have been watching shark movies on the syfy channel today. they are so bad as to be wonderfully entertaining, and they provide some quality knitting time.
finally! the green makes its entrance. i do so love this color and may well have to find another reason to buy more. though the cost would be prohibitive and the stitches many, i'd love a fine gauge casual sweater made from it.
as certain as i was that i would need a second skein of the main color, and i did and have already started using it, i am equally certain i will not need more of the contrast. let's hope i am two for two.
24 june 2011 relief
i broke down the other night and ordered a second skein of the main color.
the reinforcements have arrived.
21 june 2011 premonition
i've been knitting along quite nicely and my counts are dead on so i think i've probably mastered the increase both sides maneuver. of course, the next shawl will be the standard increase on right side only, and i'll then mess that up.
in any event, once i started knitting, i made a mindless decision to knit the largest size when i had originally planned on the medium. i am fairly sure this was a good decision in regards to the best size for me, but a bad decision in regards to the amount of yarn needed.
15 june 2011 one down, one to go
success! the shawl has dried overnight.
06:06 AM -- won't be able to get a decent picture at this hour of the morning, but we'll take what we can get. it is properly drapy and floaty and the colors are very much in line with those mrs. jones favors: blues, browns, greens. i think she will be pleased with the fact proceeds of the pattern sale went to charity; she normally prefers no gifts but i thought this was a good compromise. and it is rather a useful gift, not something that will sit collecting dust.
06:08 AM -- a little better idea of how the colors actually look.
and now that i am back in the habit of nightly knitting, i am ready to go camping. this is madeleinetosh sock in oak A and georgia o'keefe. i think they will look lovely together in a whippoorwill shawl.
for such a simple pattern i am having a hard time getting it right. i knitted and ripped and knitted and ripped again; i think it is the YOs on both the right and wrong sides that are tripping me up. third time is the charm, though, as all counts are now good. i can tell this is going to be one where i have to stop periodically to make sure i am still on track.
14 june 2011 so close
luckily, one of the many monday meetings was one during which i could knit a few rows. every minute counts! and knitting an extra hour or so before bed last night really helped. the end is in sight.
07:06 AM -- there is a small chance i will have more knitting time at the office, so i brought it with me again.
08:33 PM -- and there we go! all bound off and looking nothing like a shawl. time for a bath in a little euclan soak before hauling out the spare mattress for a little blocking party.
09:46 PM -- bit of a panic when i could not find my pins, but all is well. it is pinned, blocked rather severely, and will hopefully dry overnight. i want it ready to go to school in the morning, rather than wait for the final day of school when various pre-school activities will make it more difficult for the small child to deal with it.
12 june 2011 progress
though i should have liked to just plant myself firmly on the couch, knitting in my lap, there were saturday errands to run, and the taking of the small child to the pool, and laundry. and dinner making. and yet i still completed many rows. thank goodness this is a bottom up shawl; the rows getting shorter and shorter make me very happy
08:04 AM -- after making a strong cup of coffee, this is my starting point for the day.
08:56 PM -- i have early morning meetings so this is where it shall have to end this evening. if it doesn't look like i'll make it, i will have to forego some sleep tomorrow night.
11 june 2011 panic
i've just realized it is the 11th. the last day of school is the 16th. there is a small problem in that the shawl? it is not so much complete. i am going to have to knit in every spare minute i have to get this done.
07:14 AM -- this is where we stand this morning. there are many stitches in my future.
