28 april 2012 anatomy of a mistake
all together now: read the pattern carefully.
there had been progress made. i had a few hours in which i allowed myself to do nothing but watch a film, enigma, and knit, and it was lovely and the stripes kept appearing with great regularity.
and then, i had the temerity to count the stitches. and recount. and realize there was no way i was going to have the required number of stitches after the required number of rows. a careful rereading of the pattern and a quick expletive muttered; there were a pair of yarnovers at each end on the wrong side that i had been neglecting for twenty plus rows.
so then the shawl looked like this:
and then i decided i would read for a while and i finished the final book of the warriors saga. and, once i was done crying like a 12 year old girl at the deaths of mousefur and firestar, i took up the knitting again.
not quite back to where i was, but i am on the right track this time.
15 april 2012 a start
just because i am lentenly free to knit, doesn't mean i am actually free to knit.
but i refuse to let the insane work schedule of late completely shut me down, so i cast on and knit a few rows of my sister's shawl.
this is going to take a while...
6 april 2012 fresh start
i am officially allowed to knit.
the only fiber related activity i did during lent was to block the red shawl so i could gift it to my cousin maria. it's german yarn, knit into a german pattern, so it seemed right to give it to a german. and a charming one at that.
the scalloped edging was fairly easy to knit and looks quite brilliant -- more like crochet than knitting. the pattern was the 22.5 degrees shawl by martina behm and i liked it so much i shall soon be making more of her shawls.
i've been ill with the flu so am now even farther behind in actual work projects than i was before. so, even though it is allowed, there will still be little knitting. i will cast on my sister's shawl at some point, however; she's visiting the end of june so that is my target date.
