28 may 2012 dual action
i am doing double duty in the knitting world.
my sister's visit is looming and i still have miles of ruffle to go. i was pretty stoked with how quickly the first part of the ruffle went, but it was only eight rows of 445 stitches each [3,560 stitches total]. it gets a little crazier after that, with 18 rows of 681 stitches [12,258] and then 14 rows of 793 [11,102]. i have a feeling it is going to be a close call.
the call may be even closer considering i must also complete my camp loopy project at the same time. i cast on tonight, just to say i had, and worked maybe 10 or 12 rows of the hogwarts express pattern. it is just row after row of garter stitch until i am about 40% through the yarn, and then the interesting bits with the owls arrive! boring garter stitch rows are good right now, more likely i will be able to power through them quickly. i must remember to go bead shoppng as well -- i'll need them for the eyes, once i decide if they should be golden or something non-realistic.
i am taking the small child and a friend to great wolf lodge this weekend. hopefully i will be allowed to sit and knit whilst they frolic in the water. i am not one for water parks and as they will have each other to entertain, i should be relegated to the role of watchful parent; i can watch and knit at the same time, a practice i perfected when she was a much younger child in the pool.

slow and steady, it wins the race, right?
i've been trying to do at least four rows whenever i pick up the knitting and i try to pick it up every night. so far, so good. i've also taken to watching movies or episodes during my knitting time, so as to knock off some of my i-should-see-that-one-day list items. multi-tasking! it's what's for knitters! this week: season 3 of kingdom, sense and sensibility, and persuasion. i've been working my way through all of jane austen and once i finish the book, i've been watching the film adaptations. i hated the mansfield park i saw and have therefore sent for a different version, in the hopes of it not annoying me so much.
back to the matter at hand, i am four rows away from finishing the stripey bit and moving onto the eyelet bit and then the ribbed bit. good times, good times, even though i've read the ribbed bits get a bit tedious. no matter, i'll just find something entertaining to watch and i won't even notice.
in other news, i am ready to go camping. kauni solid in a lovely gray is the yarn choice; there is still a bit of waffling going on about the pattern choice. hogwart's express? georgiana?
4 may 2012 barf
and then there was this...
a yarn barf of such epic proportion that i was nearly defeated in my attempts to detangle and rewind without cutting. i had made it back to the point where i had been prior to the miscounting debacle and the yarn was not coming from the center of the ball as smoothly as it should. i gave it one strong tug and immediately regretted it; not a single lump of yarn came out, but three nested lumps.
more than an hour later, it was back to knitting. surely, it must be smooth sailing from here on out.
