green.girl knitting: commentary

27 august 2012 time flies

i had a good start on camp loopy project 3.

and then the rest of august happened and i barely squeaked through with the win on sunday night. but squeak through i did, and j loves it and i love it and if he never wears it i can totally steal it to wear as either a scarf or a stole. win! win!

i am a little in love with this yarn. i don't know how well it would wear but if someone suddenly gifted me lots of it, i'd have a hard time not making a cuddly oversized sweater out of it. just thinking about it makes me happy -- i can see the fire in the fireplace, feel the warmth of the cup of hot coffee i am holding, and smell the wood smoke, knitting on my lap, cat in the corner, small child drawing pictures of fantastical cats...

i may need to save my pennies and just be all sorts of irresponsible and buy it.

i am happy with the pattern i came up with, such as it was. not symmetrical, but still ordered, and the colors all play well together. it is masculine enough for j, but light enough for me. and it was an easy and fun knit. if i got bored, i just added stripes or stopped the stripes or snuck in a row or two of blue just because.

and now i must decide what comes next. cat cardigan for the child? cowl for me out of a skein of yarn the small child brought me from her vacation? while thinking about it i am knitting on the purple cowl i started a while back, out of the salvaged remains of an old sweater. mindless, round and round, it suits me right now...

02 august 2012 third verse, same as the first

i've got a good start on camp loopy project 3.

two unexpected orthodontist appointments and a viewing of the last two harry potter movies with the aforementioned small child equals quite a few garter stitch rows. i'm not using a pattern, just wanted garter stitch, and then decided stripes would be nice, and so i am just winging it. it is already different than the picture i had in my head when i bought the yarn so we will see how much more different it ends up from what i am thinking right now.

it is unbelievably soft. and drapey. i am using a bigger needle than recommended to get that drape. i'm not too worried about the durability issues of doing so -- j is not a huge scarf wearer so it won't be handled very roughly. probably twice a winter, on special occasions.
