green.girl knitting: commentary

27 june 2013 inches

i go in for surgery tomorrow.

and i won't be wearing the socks. but i will wear them while recovering as i have just about an inch or two left on each -- that can be done saturday, or maybe even tomorrow evening, depending on how i feel.

all the cabling is done so it is just a matter of ribbing myself around and around and around...

camp has been slow going this year.

but the end of the month is quickly approaching so i tried to put the pedal to the metal this weekend. i started the second sock, knitting from the outside of the skein this time, and diligently worked it until it caught up to its brother. for the record, you can burn the contents of approximately one cd from a book on tape series in the time it takes to knit 1.5 to 2 rounds of a sock, if you are me. and i am, so getting some audio books into a form they could be listened to on the ipod was some good knitting time.

i tried two new to me heels on the socks -- one on each. and while i am not deliriously happy with either, the second one seems like it might be my new go-to, if i can do it without losing a stitch along the way, as i did this time. more details later, when i feel more like writing about heels, necessary evil that they are.

i knit very tightly.

i've tried not to but it never lasts and i always revert to form, so i deal with it by usually going up a needle size or two. i've been knitting socks on a 2 or 2.5 all of my knitting life, but decided this time i'd go down to the 1 in the hopes of making them a little denser and maybe a little more durable.

i can't see a difference. it'd be rather par for the course if i suddenly figured out how not to knit so tightly just when it behooves me to do so...
