30 august 2013 done
-ish.
i mean it is done. but i have a little yarn leftover and i am thinking, now that i look at it, that i might want to see if i can eke out one more row. while i like it ending on the thin dark line, i think i might like it better if it was edged with the denim all the way around.
i had already done a double crochet row round the whole thing, which you can see here, before using the last little bit of navy to edge the bottom. but now it looks a little unbalanced to me. the lovely thing about crochet is i don't need to unravel a bind-off, i can just pick up the hook and yarn and go to town.
but only if it doesn't stop bugging me...
22 august 2013 squeaking it out
the small child's best swimming friend has been out of the country most of the summer.
this means she has not spent as many hours at the pool as in years past, which in turn means less time when i can knit or crochet without guilt, because it is hard to do any house-cleaning when you are outside, at the pool.
but today, she wanted to swim, so she swam, and i hooked and while it seemed as though i had quite a lot of yarn left for many, many days, all of a sudden, it seems as though perhaps there is not as much left as i might like. i am fairly certain there is enough for a three row pattern of the light blue, but not for the dark. and not enough for another three rows of light.
must dwell on how i want to finish it off...
20 august 2013 bicoloration
and then there were two.
i always knew it would be two-colored, but i wasn't sure exactly how the colors would mix. all dark, then all light? equal stripes right from the beginning? all dark in one pattern, then all light in a different, lacier one?
in the end, i switched over to the lighter denim blue when it felt like i should. i rather like the dark bit at the top, anchoring the shawl to my neck. so now it is to be stripes in sets of three rows. until i change my mind.
my goal is at least three rows a night, which seems completely doable at this time. especially when i have bonus hook time whilst waiting for my doctor to give me the surgical all-clear.
ps: the 12th of this month marked my eleventh year of tracking the yarny output. i haven't stuck with many things that long.
06 august 2013 hooked
welcome to camp loopy project 3.
i've decided to crochet this one, just to do something different. and to see if i can finally conquer my inability to keep the number of stitches in a row as they are meant to be -- to stop losing one here and one there, usually at the edge.
so far, so good.
i even learned how to do a magic loop to start the thing! i am using two shades of blue [navy and denim] of Cascade Heritage Sock Solids purchased from The Loopy Ewe. of course. the patterns is Eva's Shawl; very simple, but i like the way the ridges form as the pattern is an uneven three rows. mine will be striped, in some manner, so we'll see how that works out.
