green.girl knitting: commentary

15 december 2013 finally.

a few weeks ago, i woke in the middle of the night and knew how to finish my parent's christmas present. last year's present.

i'd done a row a single crochet followed a by a row of double crochet but it was curling and waving and i hated it and finally i just threw the thing in a bag and ignored it. didn't ignore the guilt at not finishing it, but did manage to ignore the blanket. but, after the revelation, i found it and ripped out all the previous edging stitches and went to town.

in keeping with the final round of each hexagon, i went with the three stitch cluster in each space. and then i did it again. by skipping the space in the deep valleys, where two hexagons met, i got a rather flat edging. and then i looked in the bag and there was a ball of koigu and it asked very nicely if it could please also be part of the edging, so it was. but it fell just short...

luckily, i had another little bit of the same color, and i had just seen a video about how to join your yarn by making a double knot so i gave it a try and it worked brilliantly. i really must remember this trick as it will be great when the very small knot won't be visible in the stitch pattern, both knit and crochet.

i didn't have the space to give it a righteous blocking, but i did give it a nice steaming, allowing each flower to lay flat and all the stitches to relax. and then i folded it neatly and promptly delivered it to my parents, so that it was in place, in their house, before this holiday. merry christmas, 2012, mom and dad!

now, to remember to take the camera over one day to get a proper picture of it, all finished.
