24 may 2016 a winged prayer
i've finished the shawl for my friend undergoing treatment for uterine cancer; she's had the surgery and starts chemo this week, so i want to get it to her soon.
as i was working the picot bind=off, i realized about halfway through i was doing it wrong, neglecting to put the last worked stitch back on the left needle before casting on two stitches. amazingly, it makes for a nice edging nonetheless. it is more a line of little pyramids than picots, but it still looks good. also? i didn't need to rip it back and reknit it.
it looks terribly small right now, and as always, i worry it won't block out large enough for a grown woman, even if she is much smaller than i. but hope stretches eternal, and i will have faith.
i was hoping to find the time to use my parent's copious amount of floor space to block it this weekend but things got in the way. i need to run over there later this week to water the garden, so i'll try and do it then.

i made a tiny pair of booties, and i have no evidence of same.
i used this pattern because it seemed it would be quick and i only had one day's notice, and quick it was. but i didn't really care for the finished product.
they were adorably cute, and the mother-to-be loved them. but they kept spreading open and i couldn't imagine how they were going to stay on a tiny pair of feet. i desperately wanted to make a little stitch to hold the overlap in place, but then i was afraid they'd be too tight to try and squeeze said tiny feet into.
i may need to make a different pair, just to put my mind at ease. maybe this or maybe this. the first pair was dark purple [stolen from the prayer shawl]; it will be her third boy, so maybe a green or blue or green and blue.

i bought some new foam tiles as i was unable to locate the millions i know the small child had in her younger days. and then i blocked the baby blanket. i probably need to buy another set of tiles, as it was slightly too narrow for my needs.
i made it work.
the stitches all evened out and lined up in lovely little columns. and i only had to shoo the cat off of it about seven times.
i had a lovely grey bow attached to a bit of elastic and it made the perfect little package with the blanket rolled into a nice tight cylinder.
